Is parent presence required during in-home therapy?
An adult must be present in the home, but you don't need to actively participate in every session.
What "present" means in practice
It means an adult is in the home while the therapist is working with your child. It does not mean sitting in the room for the full session. Plenty of parents are answering email, cooking, or with another child in the next room while a session runs, and that is a perfectly normal session.
Why you are still a partner
Parents are essential partners. We provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and support so strategies fit naturally into your routines, and being in the house makes that coaching possible in short, practical moments rather than only in scheduled meetings. You are never expected to be the expert — that's our role.
Families who want more involvement can have it. Families who need a session to be a genuine hour of breathing room can have that too, and neither choice makes you a better or worse parent to your child.
Coaching is its own service
If you want structured support in handling hard moments yourself, parent and caregiver coaching is part of what we do rather than an add-on you have to argue for.
