Few places make the DuPage school map as vivid as Carol Stream. The Village reports that seven districts serve the community depending on where a family lives: Community Consolidated School District 93, Glen Ellyn School District 41, Benjamin School District 25, Community Unit School District 200, West Chicago Elementary School District 33 with Community High School District 94, and School District U-46. For most households, the high school district is Glenbard Township High School District 87, and Glenbard North High School stands inside the village.

Community Consolidated School District 93 is the one many families here know best. It serves more than 3,300 students from PreK through eighth grade across six elementary schools and two middle schools, reaching into Bloomingdale and Hanover Park as well — and like most of its DuPage neighbors, it stops at eighth grade. The child moves on to a district that has never met them.

An IEP is the document meant to bridge that gap, and it does so only as well as the adults reading it. We go through the plan with parents, help them prepare for the transition meeting, and attend in person when asked. The village has a nicely graded set of places to practice once a child is ready. Armstrong Park, named for Neil Armstrong, and the Aldrin Community Center, named for Buzz Aldrin, are close-to-home destinations with familiar names. The Great Western Trail allows a walk of any length. Coral Cove Water Park is the loud, wet, crowded end of the scale, the sort of goal a family works toward over a season. The Carol Stream Park District maintains more than 40 parks along with Coral Cove and the Fountain View Recreation Center, and the Carol Stream Public Library gives a quieter alternative.

A child who can do something in a clinic and not at home has learned less than it looks like. That gap is the reason all our care is in-home.
